For generations, the good people of Point Reyes/West Marin have relied on the Palace Market for quality foods and staples. Founded in 1898, the market served as a full-on country mercantile, offering everything from bulk food, coffee and soap to wagons, paint, lumber, grain, dinnerware and even dynamite. In 1973, the Rocca family purchased the Palace and have since added local/organic produce and specialty food products, and established a top-notch deli that prepares delicious foods for you - salads, sandwiches, hot plates and more. They also offer an impressive choice of fine local and imported cheeses, artisanal breads, olive oils, vinegars, coffees, teas, soaps, vitamins/health goods, fresh seafood and meat, and a broad selection of wines and beers. Plus, in order to bring the very best to you, their team of professionals includes a trained culinary chef, credentialed sommelier and a cheese monger/specialist!
Today, visitors from around the world stop in the Palace Market for provisions for their picnics, camp trips and vacation getaways.
Beautiful Marin County is home to national, state and county parks, protecting 80% of the land - a portion of which is utilized for farming. With many farms surrounding the Point Reyes area, the Palace Market doesn't have to go far to replenish its fresh and bountiful selection - from apples, pears, figs and tomatoes to a vast variety of vegetables, legumes, nuts, grains and more.
Point Reyes is situated on the Pacific coast, bounded by Tomales Bay on the northeast and Bolinas Lagoon on the southeast. The climate and location gives the area access to the very best grass fed beef, lamb, goat and pasture raised chickens. Plus, the fresh seafood is among the best in the world--oysters, Dungeness crab, squid, salmon, steelhead and halibut. Check out the Palace Market's fresh, daily specials.
We just happen to be in one of the BEST regions in the world for wine, beer and spirits. Where do we begin? So many choices... We specialize in small, regional wine producers, like Pey-Marin Vineyards' superb Pinot Noir and Riesling; Windsor Oaks Vineyard's absolutely flawless Sauvignon Blanc; Sean Thackrey's elusive Pinot Noir; Heidrun Meadery's popular sparkling mead; and Rocca Family Vineyards' gorgeous reds, produced by our very own Mary Rocca and her husband Eric Grigsby. We also carry a selection of fine imports from France, Italy, Austria and more. If it's great, it's on our shelves! NOT your neighborhood grocery store brews! As for beers, we focus on the seasonal and limited edition releases from such greats as 21st Amendment, Divine, Almanac, Drake's, Lagunitas, Lips of Faith, Ninkasi, Speakeasy and Stone - just to name a few. We also carry the American pastime favorites: Budweiser, Coors and Pabst Blue Ribbon; and a fantastic selection of imports from Belgium, South America, Germany, Japan and more. If you fancy yourself a great mixologist, and are all about the Dark 'n' Stormy, fresh basil Paloma, Negroni and classic gin and tonic, our spirits department is filled with rare and hard to find bitters, vermouths, gourmet mixers and liqueurs. Just need the basics? We have it: Bulleit Bourbon, Cazadores Tequila, Hennessy, Jameson, Jim Beam, No. 209, Spirits Works...you get the picture. Need anything else? We carry all the accoutrements to make your party happen!
Cheese is always in season and the Palace Market stocks some of the best cheeses sourced locally and from around the world, including great locals like San Geronimo from Nicasio Valley Cheese Company, a delicious cross between a Fontina and a Raclette; the Original Blue from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company, a full flavored, creamy blue that will knock your socks off (in demand by top restaurants across the US); and the refined goat cheeses from Laura Chenel - utterly earthly delights. We're also well stocked with fine imports: Parmesan, Fontina, triple crèmes and more. There's nothing like a fresh egg for breakfast! Our eggs come from organic, cage free chickens raised by local farmers at Rock Island and Clover Stornetta Farms. We like them for lunch and dinner, too!
This month we're featuring five varieties of figs from Knoll Farms - known for their outstanding, organic produce. To show them off, we've paired the figs with prosciutto and Mont Chevre cheese to make a delectable summer salad - a wallop of flavor and nutrition.Fresh from the sea, we're preparing local albacore tuna that we poached in olive oil with fresh dill and turned into an amazing chilled salad by our longtime, in-house chef Gloria. Also, while they're in season, we've been playing with the delightful Toybox tomatoes from River Dog Farms. These colorful, sweet cherry tomatoes are bright and bursting with flavor - delicious in raw dishes or tossed with warm pasta. They're so irresistible, we've been generously popping them into all our fresh salads. If it's a sandwich you're after, we have a great selection of grab-and-gos, or tell us what you want and we'll make it fresh and fast on the spot. Hungry? Try our new King Steak Panini Sandwich: New York Strip Roast Beef on a baguette with caramelized sweet onions, topped with melted Fontina cheese. Incredibly delicious! Check out our daily soup specials!
